What are Democratic lawmakers doing in DC?

Are they opposing fascism? Are they complicit by omission?

Democrats in the legislature have been very quiet for the most part. They appear to carry on like everything is still normal and are resigned to inaction and silent submission. What more can they do but wait for the midterms and hope to win majority control of a legislative branch?

Should democrats file ethics complaints? Should they refer conflicts of interest to the DOJ? What happens if Democrats don't win a majority in 2026?

The executive now controls the legislature, judiciary, and most federal agencies. The administration, appointees, and wealthy supporters are nearly immune from federal prosecution. Bribery, extortion, insider trading, and conflicts of interest are conducted openly without shame.

When President Biden began his term, Democrats controlled the House of Representatives and Senate with a slim majority. The Supreme Court conservative super majority, only possible because Mitch McConnell stole a vacancy from Obama. Republicans play a long game better and outmaneuver democrats with clever tactics, obstruction, and defiance. They change the rules to rig the game in their favor, and act appalled when democrats do it.

Biden and Democrats floated the idea of expanding the court, but lacked the courage to do it. Had they expanded the court, Roberts wouldn't have been able to give Trump an immunity safety net and left him with lingering prosecution fears. Trump likely would have still won. Without absolute freedom to ignore laws, his legal counsel would at least slow him down. In this scenario, Republicans would either expand the Supreme Court or return it to its original size.

Our elected democratic officials in DC shouldn't be afraid to stand up and meet the moment. America is enduring great harm the democratic republic of the United States may not survive. The experiment in democracy built by the founding fathers may already be over, but we just can't see it yet.
